Cool-climate Chardonnay from the Le Grand Clos parcel of Le Clos Jordanne on Niagara's Twenty Mile Bench over limestone-rich clay. Whole-bunch pressed, wild-fermented and aged 20 to 22 months in French oak, about a fifth new. Red apple, lemon, pear and melon lead, laced with smoke, spice and a stony edge. The palate is fine and precise, fresh acidity framing a creamy core before a long, intricate finish. Pair it with Ogleshield, whose supple, savoury washed-rind paste mirrors the oak while the acidity cuts its richness.
