Chateau des Vergers Aux Saules Beaujolais

Single-vineyard Beaujolais-Lantignié from Cosima Bassouls's organically farmed family estate: goblet-trained Gamay planted in the 1960s on south-facing pink granite at 350 metres. Whole bunches, native yeasts and eight to ten months in concrete keep the fruit pure. Expect bright red cherry, raspberry and bramble, with crushed blackberry and baking spice. Light to medium in body, with fresh acidity, fine, light tannins and a long, saline finish. Serve with Gorwydd Caerphilly, whose lemony, earthy crumble lifts the wine's red fruit.
